“I first became involved with birth work in 2012, while supporting a close friend through her VBAC. Calling it an incredible, life-changing experience doesn't say enough. I've been obsessed ever since! Being present during someone's birth is an absolute honor, and watching my dear friend take back what she personally felt was missing from her first birth was like witnessing her being reborn, along with her beautiful son. I felt overwhelmingly fortunate to be a part of her transformation into an even stronger, more empowered mother. Being involved in this work, I’ve come to believe that the more people who have satisfying, positive birth experiences, where they feel respected, encouraged and supported throughout, the more beneficial it is for the family, our communities, and society as a whole. Let’s work towards removing the shame and judgment that happens too often in early parenting, and replace those feelings with empathetic compassion and understanding.
I also work as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and have a lot of fun teaching classes! I feel strongly that education is a key component in quality professional labor support. Doulas and educators strive to help families feel more informed and prepared, as they enter this next fascinating chapter in their lives. Other top priorities include partner support and/or family guidance, as parents become grandparents or as little ones are becoming big siblings. Even when there is already a primary support person, such as a partner or close loved one, they benefit from someone keeping a watchful eye over them, too. Collectively, we inspire inner strength to come forth, as we form a solid and supportive team around the laboring person. Nurturing the relationships of the parents, as they go through this exciting transition together, is an aspect of birth work that we, as doulas, value greatly. I’m excited to be a small part of your journey, and I look forward to meeting with you and your family, as we explore all of your options together." -Kate
"We are eternally grateful to Kate and don't know what we would have done without her. We decided to get a doula after a job opportunity required a cross-country relocation. There was a large possibility that my husband might not be able to make it back to Madison in time for the birth. Having Kate gave us both peace of mind that I would have someone there to support me since this would be our first child. She has an amazing attitude and bubbly personality. We felt comfortable with her from our first meeting. She checked in with me weekly during the final weeks and shared lots of information and stories as well. Leading up to labor we had an extensive meeting going over our birth plan and fears/concerns. Labor was short, but very intense, and back pains meant little rest between contractions. During labor, she never left my side. She did everything she could to help me manage the pain and keep me calm. She made sure that I stayed hydrated, kept my mind off the clock, and made sure that my wishes were followed and my concerns addressed. She also kept my husband up to date with what was happening. Once our daughter was born, not only did she video chat my husband so he could see her, she stayed with the baby while I showered, and she stayed with us until my husband arrived (an additional 6 hours). We would highly recommend Kate to anyone. She was amazing to work with and was extremely supportive, given our unique situation. We will miss Kate, but she will always remain a part of our story."

"I am glad that I decided to go with a doula for the birth of our second child. My first child was delivered via c-section and I was very nervous about having a VBAC. Kate was recommended to me from one of the other doulas. I could not be happier with her services. She is one of the kindest people I have ever met. She has a very peaceful presence about her, which helped me relax while in labor. She was very receptive to my requests, which included simply talking to me throughout labor and delivery and walking with me up and down the halls. She did a great job at comforting me when I started getting nervous. She also gives a wonderful back rub, which provided much relief once the pain got intense. Kate was also a wealth of knowledge, which I appreciated. I could tell that she knew what she talking about when it came to labor and delivery. What I liked most about her is that she followed my lead. She was able to adjust my care based on what she was experiencing with me in the moment. She was comforting, encouraging, and empowering. She made me feel like I was super woman! I don’t know what I would have done without her. She holds a special place in my heart, considering she was helping me through the most important moment of my life, the birth of my baby. I would highly recommend Kate to anyone looking for a doula. She is wonderful!" ~Christine
